The Higher Institute of Health Sciences Victor Sá Machado (Instituto Superior de Ciências de Saúde Victor Sá Machado - Universidade de São Tomé e Príncipe (ISCSVSM-USTP) aims to train technical staff in the health area.

Built in 2001/2002 with funding from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Health  Graduation School Professors Dr. Victor Sá Machado, was inaugurated on October 18, 2003 by the Excellency President of the Republic, Dr. Fradique de Menezes. With the publication of Decree-Law no. 09/2014 (Republic Diary no. 41, on May 22), it became one of the Organic Units of the university of São Tomé and Principe, being supervised by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Communication and received the name of Higher Institute of Health Sciences Victor Sá Machado (ISCSVSM-USTP).

In compliance with its purpose of promoting the graduation of new technicians and the retraining and qualifying the existing technicians, the Institute has invested in the training of health workers and short-term training in various areas of public administration of the country. It currently teaches mid-level courses, baccalaureate courses for middle-level students, and is opening his first degree courses (upper level).
