06/06/2019 - Every day, there are more than 1 million new cases of curable sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among people aged 15-49 years, according to data released released this Thursday, June 6 by the World Health Organization. This amounts to more than 376 million new cases annually of four infections - chlamydia, gonorrhoea, trichomoniasis, and syphilis. “We’re seeing a concerning lack of progress in stopping the spread of sexually transmitted infections worldwide,” said Dr Peter Salama, Executive Director for Universal Health Coverage and the Life-Course at WHO. “This is a wake-up call for a concerted effort to ensure everyone, everywhere can access the services they need to prevent and treat these debilitating diseases.” -
05/31/2019 - The 7th RETS Virtual Seminar 'Interprofessional Education in the training and work of health technicians' will be held on June 4, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. (Brasília time), at the EPSJV Auditorium, with a live webcast and translation simultaneous to Spanish. At the event, the research professors Marina Peduzzi, Nildo Alves Batista and José Rodrigues Freire Filho will present the theme and discuss possibilities for the use of this strategy in the training of health technicians. -
05/28/2019 - Delegates from the World Health Assembly adopted three resolutions on universal coverage, focusing on: primary health care, the role of community health workers and the United Nations General Assembly high-level meeting on universal health coverage. -
05/22/2019 - When presenting the main topics for discussion at the World Health Assembly to delegations from the countries of the Americas, Carissa F. Etienne, Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), urged them to ensure that their interventions reflect the Region’s position on universal health, which includes universal health coverage and access. The World Health Assembly will be extensively discussing universal health coverage, not only at the plenary, but also in the different decisions that will be made on the subject. In her address to the delegates of the Americas, the PAHO Director recalled the process involved in reaching a consensus in 2014 on universal health coverage and access. -
05/20/2019 - The death toll among 34,300 cases reported across 42 countries in the WHO’s European region reached 13, with the virus killing people in Ukraine - which is suffering a measles epidemic - as well as in Romania and Albania. The risk is that outbreaks may continue to spread, that's why WHO warned that is urging authorities to ensure that vulnerable people are vaccinated. -
05/20/2019 - In recommendations to counter an expected tripling in the number of people with the degenerative condition in the next 30 years, the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines are designed to help medical professionals and governments to develop national policies. Today, around 50 million people globally suffer from dementia and there are nearly 10 million new cases every year. -
05/03/2019 - The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) proposed on monday (29/4) series of interventions aimed at integrating migrant health needs into national policies, strategies and programs. The Organization has published a guidance document on migration and health that suggests five areas of action countries should take top improve the health of migrants and the populations that receive them. -
04/15/2019 - The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Regional Network of Interprofessional Education of the Americas (REIP) announce the second webinar of the year, which will take place on the 22nd, 2010, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Washington time). Open to all and led by Dr. Barbara Brandt from the University of Minnesota and Dr. Joseph Zorek from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, this webinar will highlight trends and activities in interprofessional education and collaborative practice to achieve universal health. -

The World Health Statistics 2019 – disaggregated by sex for the first time – explains why. “Breaking down data by age, sex and income group is vital for understanding who is being left behind and why,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “Behind every number in the World Health Statistics is a person, a family, a community or a nation. Our task is to use these data to make evidence-based policy decisions that move us closer to a healthier, safer, fairer world for everyone.” -
04/01/2019 - World Health Day is celebrated in April 7, and this year marks the end of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the World Health Organization (WHO). In the region of the Americas, these celebrations were framed under the theme "Universal health: for all and everyone, everywhere". The aim of the 'universal health' is to ensure that all people have access, without discrimination, to quality integral services, without facing financial difficulties.
