  • Women and girls bear brunt of water and sanitation crisis – new UNICEF-WHO report
    07/07/2023 - Women and girls responsible for fetching water in 7 out of 10 households without supplies on premises, according to first in-depth analysis of gender inequalities in drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in households. The publication "Progress on household drinking water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) 2000-2022: Special focus on gender" provides the first in-depth analysis of gender inequalities in WASH – also notes that women and girls are more likely to feel unsafe using a toilet outside of the home and disproportionately feel the impact of lack of hygiene.

    05/29/2023 - In the first-ever report of its kind, the World heal Organization Council on the Economics of Health for All has outlined a bold new path to reorient economies to deliver what matters - health for all. Launched in conjunction with the Seventy-sixth World Health Assembly, the report, entitled "Health for All: Transforming economies to deliver what matters", provides a new framework built on the above four pillars, with specific recommendations under each – drawing from the Council’s previous work.

  • Mpox public health emergency declared over
    05/16/2023 - The rapid global and local response has made significant progress in controlling the disease. The Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) declared that the outbreak of mpox virus in several countries, which began about a year ago, was no longer a public health emergency of international concern. He warns, however, that transmission continues in certain communities and countries, as well as travel-related transmission.
  • WHO chief declares end to COVID-19 as a global health emergency
    05/07/2023 - The head of the UN World Health Organization (WHO) has declared “with great hope” an end to COVID-19 as a public health emergency, stressing that it does not mean the disease is no longer a global threat. “Last week, COVID-19 claimed a life every three minutes – and that’s just the deaths we know about”, said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, briefing the media at the agency’s headquarters in Geneva.
  • WHO releases the largest global collection of health inequality data
    04/26/2023 - World Health Organization is launching the Health Inequality Data Repository, the most comprehensive global collection of publicly available disaggregated data and evidence on population health and its determinants. The repository allows for tracking health inequalities across population groups and over time, by breaking down data according to group characteristics, ranging from education level to ethnicity.
  • New transatlantic partnership to address post-pandemic global health priorities and challenges
    04/19/2023 - An arrangement signed between the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe (WHO/Europe) and the United States Department for Health and Human Services (HHS) seeks to improve transatlantic collaboration to strengthen global health systems and attain health equity in a post-pandemic context.
