  • 08/03/2023 - The World Health Organization (WHO) is releasing new scientific and normative guidance on HIV at the 12th International IAS (the International AIDS Society) Conference on HIV Science, held in Brisbane from 23 to 26 July 2023. This biennial conference presents the critical advances in basic, clinical and operational HIV research that move science into policy and practice.
  • 07/18/2023 - New WHO and UNICEF data show promising signs of immunization services rebounding in some countries, but, particularly in low-income countries, coverage still falls short of pre-pandemic levels putting children at grave risk from disease outbreaks. According to data published today by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, in 2022, 20.5 million children missed out on one or more vaccines delivered through routine immunization services, compared to 24.4 million children in 2021. In spite of this improvement, the number remains higher than the 18.4 million children who missed out in 2019 before pandemic-related disruptions, underscoring the need for ongoing catch-up, recovery and system strengthening efforts.
  • 07/07/2023 - Women and girls responsible for fetching water in 7 out of 10 households without supplies on premises, according to first in-depth analysis of gender inequalities in drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in households. The publication "Progress on household drinking water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) 2000-2022: Special focus on gender" provides the first in-depth analysis of gender inequalities in WASH – also notes that women and girls are more likely to feel unsafe using a toilet outside of the home and disproportionately feel the impact of lack of hygiene.
  • 06/27/2023 - In a landmark development aimed at investing in and strengthening essential, climate and crisis-resilient primary health care (PHC) services in low- and low-and-middle income countries (LICs and LMICs), three multilateral development banks have joined with WHO to launch the new Health Impact Investment Platform.
  • 06/14/2023 - The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is launching a call to collect successful experiences on integrating workers' healthcare at the primary health care in the Region of the Americas. This initiative is promoted by the Workers' Health Area of the Promotion and Social Determinants of Health Unit.
  • 06/02/2023 - World Health Organization's 76th Health Assembly closed, having addressed a vast array of issues, including behavioural sciences; best buys for non-communicable diseases; diagnostics; drowning prevention; emergency, critical and operative care; food micronutrients; Indigenous health; infection prevention and control; maternal and child health; medical oxygen; primary health care; refugee and migrant health; rehabilitation; traditional medicine, and WHO’s work in responding to dozens of emergencies while working with Member States to be better prepared to face new ones.
  • 05/29/2023 - In the first-ever report of its kind, the World heal Organization Council on the Economics of Health for All has outlined a bold new path to reorient economies to deliver what matters - health for all. Launched in conjunction with the Seventy-sixth World Health Assembly, the report, entitled "Health for All: Transforming economies to deliver what matters", provides a new framework built on the above four pillars, with specific recommendations under each – drawing from the Council’s previous work.

"A well-educated, skilled, and equitably distributed workforce is critical to building resilient health systems, meeting the health needs of the population, and better preparing for future threats and pandemics," said PAHO Director Dr. Jarbas Barbosa.
  • 05/16/2023 - The rapid global and local response has made significant progress in controlling the disease. The Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) declared that the outbreak of mpox virus in several countries, which began about a year ago, was no longer a public health emergency of international concern. He warns, however, that transmission continues in certain communities and countries, as well as travel-related transmission.
  • 05/07/2023 - The head of the UN World Health Organization (WHO) has declared “with great hope” an end to COVID-19 as a public health emergency, stressing that it does not mean the disease is no longer a global threat. “Last week, COVID-19 claimed a life every three minutes – and that’s just the deaths we know about”, said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, briefing the media at the agency’s headquarters in Geneva.
