Strategy and Plan of Action on Ethnicity and Health 2019-2025

“Enjoying the best attainable state of health is one of the fundamental rights of every human being, regardless of race, religion, political creed, or economic or social condition”, according to the World Health Organization Constitution. At the 29th Pan American Sanitary Conference, the Ethics and Health Policy was approved in September 2017, the resolution of which calls on the Director to continue to prioritize ethnicity as a cross-cutting axis, in harmony with gender, equity and rights. Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

Noting that adopting measures in the intercultural health framework could help to improve the health outcomes of indigenous peoples, African descendants, Roma and members of other ethnicities; PAHO Strategic Plan 2020-2025, strategic objectives, expected results at the regional level, and its indicators, and in light of lessons learned and resolutions already adopted that recognize the need to strengthen intercultural health in health interventions; the agency launches the document 'Strategy and Plan of Action on Ethnicity and Health 2019-2025'.
