  • The viral hepatitis affects hundreds of millions of people
    07/28/2014 - Every year on 28 July, WHO and partners mark World Hepatitis Day to increase the awareness and understanding of viral hepatitis and the diseases that it causes. Viral hepatitis – a group of infectious diseases known as Hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E – affects hundreds of millions of people worldwide, causing acute and chronic liver disease and killing close to 1.4 million people every year. But hepatitis remains largely ignored or unknown.
  • WHO: People most at risk of HIV are not getting the health services they need
    07/21/2014 -  Failure to provide adequate HIV services for key groups – men who have sex with men, people in prison, people who inject drugs, sex workers and transgender people – threatens global progress on the HIV response, warns WHO. These people are most at risk of contracting HIV yet are least likely to have access to HIV prevention, testing and treatment services. In many countries they are left out of national HIV plans, and discriminatory laws and policies are major barriers to access. WHO released "Consolidated guidelines on HIV prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care for key populations", in the lead-up to the International AIDS Conference in Melbourne, Australia, starting on 20 July.
  • WHO highlights need for countries to scale up action on noncommunicable diseases
    07/15/2014 - As world leaders gather at the United Nations General Assembly to assess efforts made since 2011 in controlling noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) like heart disease, cancer, diabetes and chronic lung disease, the new WHO NCD Country Profiles 2014 show progress has been insufficient and uneven.
  • Costa Rica releases project to revive RETS in Central America and the Caribbean
    07/03/2014 - The School of Health Technology, University of Costa Rica (TS/UCR), which hosted the first Executive Secretariat of RETS is giving progress to a project of reactivation and operation of RETS in the Central American and Caribbean region. The initiative, coordinated by the School director, Xínia Alvarado Zeledón, aims to recreate a space that allows to share and exchange experiences and knowledge related to academic and labor levels; enhance education, expanding the technical learning in health across the region; develop joint research projects and social action related to health technologies, in addition to having a regional party to attract international cooperation for development in the area.
  • Call for applications for PAHO-OAS health scholarships in Brazil
    06/20/2014 - Students seeking graduate degrees in health and research for health may now apply for scholarships to study in Brazil under an agreement signed earlier this year between the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Organization of American States (OAS). The application deadline is 6 August 2014. The tuition-paid scholarships are being offered through the PAHO-OAS agreement in conjunction with the Coimbra Group of Brazilian Universities (GCUB). The scholarships support studies at the master’s or PhD level in health-related areas at Brazilian universities. They cover the costs of tuition and a subsistence stipend.
  • Call of Scholarships of the Mexican government for foreigners
    06/20/2014 - On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID) invites foreign citizens who are interested in studying for a specialization, master’s degree or doctorate, conducting graduate or postdoctoral research, or taking part in an undergraduate or graduate-level academic mobility program, to participate in the 2015 Mexican Government Scholarship Program for International Students.
  • ISAGS launches open call for articles to a theme journal on the Post-2015 Agenda
    06/09/2014 - The South American Institute of Government in Health (ISAGS) is launching an open call for articles and essays to be included in its first scientific journal, which will be about ‘Post-2015 and Sustainable Development Goals: the South American Vision’. The publication is aimed at fostering the political-strategic debate on the construction of the United Nations agenda for sustainable human development and its implications for human and environmental health from the perspective of South American nations.

    05/08/2014 - James Campbell from United Kingdom is appointment as Executive Director, GHWA and director of the Health Workforce Department, at the World Health Organization (HWF/WHO) effective 1at July 2014. 
  • Conference discusses primary health care in the construction of universal health systems
    05/06/2014 - The Spanish experience will be presented in perspective to the South American systems. The conference that will be conducted by specialist José-Manuel Freire and is promoted by the South American Health Institute on May 13th at 11am. It will be broadcasted online in Spanish, English and Portuguese.
  • Members of RETS assess the work done and make commitments to strengthen future actions
    01/21/2014 - The event theme was ‘The Network as a place of production of knowledge about education and work of health technicians’, happened as a preliminary activity to the 3rd Global Forum on Human Resources for Health, and brought together about 80 representatives of countries and institutions that are part of the networks. The official agenda of the meeting was the discussion and approval of the work and the regulation plan of the three networks and the election of the future headquarters of the Executive Secretariat of RETS and RETS-Unasur.
