Review / Resumen:

The technical report Impact of COVID-19 on access to contraceptives in the Latin America and Caribbean region, examines how access to contraceptives in the region could deteriorate as an immediate effect of the interruption of service, as well as as a result indirect effect of the decrease in personal and family income due to the pandemic.

The COVID-19 pandemic compromises the progress made in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region towards goal 3.7 of the Sustainable Development Goals that seeks to reach 2030 with zero unmet needs for family planning. This document analyzes how access to modern contraceptives in the region could deteriorate as an immediate effect of the shortage of supplies, the discontinuity of sexual and reproductive health services, the reduction of consultations due to fear of contagion, as well as an indirect result of the decrease in personal and family income.
