The 7th RETS Virtual Seminar 'Interprofessional Education in the training and work of health technicians' will be held on June 4, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. (Brasília time), in the Auditorium of the Polytechnic School of Health Joaquim Venâncio (EPSJV/Fiocruz ), with live broadcast by RNP (in Portuguese) and Facebook by RETS (in Spanish).
In the event, the researchers Marina Peduzzi, Nildo Alves Batista and José Rodrigues Freire Filho will present the theme and discuss possibilities for the use of this strategy in the training of health technicians. The table will be coordinated by the researcher Helifrancis Condé, from EPSJV.
Interprofessional Education (IPE): a privileged strategy?
The 2006 World Health Report - Working together for health - revealed a health human resources crisis in almost every country in the world. The lack of health professionals has been seen as a critical barrier to achieve the health Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015.
At that time, the Fifty-ninth World Health Assembly published the resolution WHA 59.23 urging countries to increase and qualify their health workforce and suggested the use of innovative approaches to fundamental strategy for this.
In addition, there was already a consensus on the need to strengthen national health systems by consolidating the principles of primary health care (PHC) - attention in first contact, longitudinality, completeness and coordination - and its attributes: family and community orientation and cultural competence.
The interprofessional education, in which students from two or more professions learn about others, with each other and between them, has been growing as a privileged strategy for the training of workers capable of working in teams with professionals of different backgrounds, in order to provide of the highest possible quality. The collaborative practice aims to integrate all those whose skills and competencies can help achieve local health goals.
In America, the Pan American Health Organization has developed the Human Resources Strategy for Universal Access to Health and Universal Health Coverage from the framework of the Global Strategy on Human Resources for Health: Workforce 2030 , which recognizes the urgency of adopting IPE in a generalized way and recommends that educational institutions adapt their organizational structures and teaching modalities to promote IPE and the collaborative practice.
Now a days, training institutions from several countries have been working with the perspective of the IPE at graduation courses in the health area, and there has been a proliferation of discussions about the role of IPE in the transformation and advancement of education and the qualification of health professionals; the meaning, strategies and approaches of IPE in the institutional context; challenges of implementing IPE curriculum; management models of interprofessional health teams; among other things.
The choice of IPE as the theme for the 7th RETS Virtual Seminar was defined in November 2018 during the 4th General Meeting of the Network. The promotion of discussions on interprofessional education and the work of technicians in PHC is the third objective of the Regionalized Actions Plan for Latin America 2019-2022, which is part of the Network Work Plan. At that time, it was considered fundamental to socialize materials, through the website of the Network, and to hold a virtual seminar about the subject.
About the speakers
She graduated in Nursing from the University of São Paulo (1978), holds a Master's Degree in Psychiatric Nursing from the University of São Paulo (1987), a PhD in Collective Health from the State University of Campinas (1998) and post-doctorate in practice and interprofessional education at Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery, Kings College London, London University. She is currently an Associate Professor of the Professional Orientation Department of the University of São Paulo School of Nursing, leader of the Research Group on 'Management and Education in Health and Nursing in Collaborative Interprofessional Perspective', a member of the Coordinating Committee of the Program of Post-Graduation in Nursing Management and Coordinator of the Workstation 'Center for Studies and Research in Human Resources in Health of EEUSP' of the Observatory Network of Human Resources in Health of the Pan American Health Organization and Ministry of Health, Brazil.
Nildo Alves Batista
Professor at the Federal University of São Paulo, he is a doctor, pediatrician, Master of Medicine (Pediatrics) and PhD in Medicine (Pediatrics) at the University of São Paulo and a free teaching graduation in Medical Education at the Federal University of São Paulo. Current President of the Brazilian Association of Medical Education (ABEM). Director (2015 -) of the Center for the Development of Higher Education in Health (CEDESS), was its founder and first director (1997-2005). Deputy Coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Teaching in Health Sciences, master's level (2014 -). Counselor Professor of the Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Program in Health Sciences, Master's degrees and Ph.D. It has been developing teaching and research activities related to Medical Education and Teaching in Health since 1990, mainly in the following areas: medical education, health education, teaching and teaching in Medicine and teaching in health sciences.
José Rodrigues Freire Filho
International Consultant on Human Resources in Health of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO). José holds a strategic role in conducting the Regional Interprofessional Education Network of the Americas (REIP), as well as in the monitoring of actions for the implementation of Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice in Latin American and Caribbean countries, including research to evaluate the impact of the approach in the area of human resources in health with potential to improve universal access to health. He was Technical Advisor of the Department of Health Education Management of the Brazilian Ministry of Health and Institutional Supporter of the Directorate of Health Education Development of the Brazilian Ministry of Education.
