Virtual seminar will present the results of the survey on the use of the PAHO/WHO VCPH by health technicians
Who are the health technicians enrolled in the courses of the Pan American Health Organization's Virtual Public Health Campus (VCPH-PAHO/WHO)? What is their training and what functions do they perform in their daily work? What courses are they enrolled in? Getting to know these users and their training needs better is part of the work being done to expand and strengthen VCPH's role with this category of workers, which currently represents about 15% of the Virtual Campus users, especially nursing and laboratory technicians, community health workers and caregivers.
The seminar, which will take place on August 20 from 10:00 to 12:00 (Brasilia time), virtually and with simultaneous translation into Portuguese, Spanish and English, will present the results obtained in the first phase of the study, as well as a new survey that will give continuity to the project. In April, an initial seminar presented the VCPH platform and the research methodology. See how it went!
About CVSP and Research
Since its inception 20 years ago, the VCPH-PAHO/WHO has played a key role in the training of health personnel throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. The VCPH provides access to up-to-date knowledge, free of charge, and promotes collaboration among professionals throughout the region. In this way, it has been fulfilling its mission to "lead strategic collaborative efforts among Member States and other partners to promote the training of human resources for health, for all people, everywhere" in the best possible way and, as a result, is making a significant contribution to the advancement of public health in the Americas and Caribbean region.
Recently, the VCPH's attention has focused on the training of technicians working in the sector, a contingent of workers who, in most countries, constitute the basis of the national health system. The idea is that VCPH should contribute, in an increasingly consistent manner, to the development of the skills and competencies of these workers, enabling them to accompany the transformation of public health services and practices in the Americas region.
The research "Broadening the participation of health technicians in the PAHO/WHO Virtual Public Health Campus (VCPH)" is the result of a partnership between the VCPH and the Joaquim Venâncio Polytechnic School of Health (EPSJV/FIOCRUZ), WHO Collaborating Center for the Education of Health Technicians, and has the support of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID). Its general objective is to contribute to expand and improve the access of health technicians to the educational materials made available by PAHO/WHO in its Virtual Public Health Campus (VCPH-PAHO/WHO).
