02/19/2024 - The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) convened countries from the Americas for a meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, to discuss the progress of negotiations on a possible future global pandemic agreement. The objective of the two-day meeting, which concluded on Friday (02/16), was to review the key components of the preliminary document to be presented in May for approval by the World Health Assembly (WHA).

12/09/2023 - The Joaquim Venâncio Polytechnic School of Health (EPSJV/Fiocruz) held on December 4 the international seminar "Clinical Simulation in the training of Health Technicians in the Ibero-American context: challenges and perspectives", which brought together experts and members of the Ibero-American Network for the Education of Health Technicians (RIETS). The event is part of a project presented in a call by the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB) and approved in July of this year.

11/20/2023 - The seminar, which will be held on December 4 (morning and afternoon) at the Joaquim Venâncio Polytechnic Health School (EPSJV/Fiocruz), will be broadcast in Portuguese and Spanish via YouTube and will bring together experts from six countries. The aim is to deepen knowledge of clinical simulation as a teaching-learning strategy and to discuss processes for incorporating simulation into the training of health technicians. The event is part of a project approved in the 1st Call for Projects for Networks registered in the Register of Ibero-American Networks of the Ibero-American General Secretariat (Segib). 11/09/2023 - "Strengthening the training and work of health technicians is strengthening national health systems: the perspectives of PAHO/WHO and the CPLP". This was the central theme of the virtual meeting of the International Network for the Education of Health Technicians (RETS), based at the Joaquim Venâncio Polytechnic School of Health (EPSJV/Fiocruz). Held online on November 7, the event included the launch of an electronic publication, a debate, and a brief presentation on strategic projects.

11/08/2023 - Virtual education has gained a prominent place in the field of health education and the experience of the pandemic has increased the need for countries and institutions to prioritize it. Since its official launch in 2003, the Virtual Campus for Public Health (VCPH) of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has been a pioneer in the development of virtual education in public health. The VCPH was conceived as a tool for PAHO's technical cooperation, with the mission to "lead strategic collaborative efforts among Member States and other partners to promote the training of human resources for health, for all people everywhere."

10/26/2023 - During the RETS' Virtual Meeting "Strengthening the training and work of health technicians is strengthening national health systems: the perspectives of PAHO/WHO and CPLP", will be launched the electronic publication "The training and work of health workers in the post-Covid world: synthesis and recommendations". Also, representatives of the CPLP and PAHO/WHO will discuss important aspects of the training of health technicians included in documents recently approved by both international organizations. Finally, two strategic projects for the RETS and its sub-networks will be presented.

10/16/2023 - Human rights abuses and coercive practices in mental health care, supported by existing legislation and policies, are still far too common. Involuntary hospitalization and treatment, unsanitary living conditions and physical, psychological, and emotional abuse characterize many mental health services across the world.The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights (OHCHR) are jointly launching new guidance, entitled “Mental health, human rights and legislation: guidance and practice”, to support countries to reform legislation in order to end human rights abuses and increase access to quality mental health care.

10/02/2023 - The 60th Directing Council of the Pan American Health Organization was convened in the United States capital from 25-28 September. During the meeting, ministers and high-level health authorities from the Americas, adopted 12 resolutions to strengthen health policies in the Americas and recover gains lost during the COVID-19 pandemic.
