The Learning National Service (Servicio Nacional de Aprendizaje - SENA) was created in 1957 as a result of a joined effort of the organized workers, business men, the catholic church and the International Labor Organization. It is a nationwide public institution with its own estate, it has an independent and autonomous administration subordinated to the Ministry of Health and Social Security of Colombia. The Sena is in charge of the obligation that corresponds to the government’s duty to invest in the technical and social development of Colombian offering and providing a full professional education to the inclusion and development of people in productive activities that contribute to the country’s social, economic and technological development. 

The full professional education given in the institution acts as a central element of the social function, focusing on the outside, according to the national and international dynamics, contributing to the business creativity and innovation and stimulating the processes that support the labor and occupational transformation demanded by the country. 

The free of charge education that Sena offers characterizes itself for being a theory-practice educational process through which people gain, maintain and improve their technological and technical knowledge that allows for the development of their capacity to act critically and creatively in the productive activity, contributing to their own personal development, to the economy’s competitive nature and for them to exercise their full rights of citizenship.
